Christmas Happenings!

It's December! Almost Christmas, almost the end of school…so many things to be excited about. But most of all, get excited for this Thursday, because we're BACON at Rachel Wiens' house!
Ok, so there won't actually be bacon. But we're baking. Or if you're Jamaican, we're bacon.

Now guys, before you stop reading this, please note- you must come also/especially. Couple reasons.
1) Guys can bake. I have eaten many a delicious thing made by none other than Blair Pollard. Enough said.
2) If you don't want to bake, you can put icing on stuff. It's the fun part anyway.
3) If you're too good for it, or if it's just really not something that you want to do, then come to eat the works of the wonderful brave men and women who baked. And to hang out with other non-bakers (although I know that you really wanna ice some stuff, don't ya?)

So come one, come all. If you're in the middle of exam crunch time, write this date down and take a couple hours on Thursday to rest your brain and fuel up with sugar cookies and gingerbread. It's going to be a really good time.

Now, Rachel is being really awesome and buying ingredients for us so we can make the gingerbread and sugar cookies, so please please remember to bring a toonie, maybe even three bucks to help cover the cost. You'll be able to bring a few cookies home with you, so between the good time and the wonderful treats you can use to bribe your profs, parents, girlfriend, boss, whoever….it'll be totally worth it. Remember the cash!

Also, stay tuned for info about a pre-Christmas hang out and hot tub event at Katelyn's place!

This Coming Week

This Saturday we're getting together to help set up and re-configure some chairs for the baptism service. So come meet at the church at 9:30am, and we'll head to my place for brunch afterwards.

We're not meeting next Thursday, but stay tuned for December events!!

Upcoming Events

This Thursday (November 3rd) we are not meeting. However, we ARE meeting the following week! We'll meet at the church, and the plan is to help with the removal of the carpet in some rooms upstairs. So come ready to help (and remember how cold the church is outside the worship centre!)
For those who aren't ripping out carpet we'll hang out and...well, I dunno. Games, chatting, whatever.

So come to the church on the 10th at 7:30. See you there!

Update

Just a heads up, we're not meeting on this Thursday (today), and there is nothing planned for next Thursday either. We're continuing to meet on Sundays after church for lunch and bible study, which have been quite excellent, and you are more than welcome to join us! Please do come!

Continuing Community in Diversity

Last week we had our drive-in movie, and it was so much fun. We were blessed by the warm evening weather, and after everyone left that night I reflected on how incredibly blessed we are to have such a diverse, yet cohesive bunch of young adults at South Langley Church.

Today was the first bible study of five that Larry and Carolyn are leading after church for the next few weeks. Lunch went off without a hitch, and we were challenged to think about diversity and unity, specifically in worship styles, and how we so readily contain God, others, and ourselves into boxes. I am excited to continue that conversation.

Upcoming Happenings:

Please note that we will NOT be gathering this week on Thursday, and there will NOT be a Bible study next Sunday, because of Thanksgiving.

The following Thursday, the 13th, we will be gathering with the young adults at Simon's place for a hang out/games night. That will be at 7:30, and if you need information regarding Simon's address, please email me.

That Sunday the 16th, lunch and bible study will resume after church, which I hope you can make it to (yes, YOU...this is for EVERYONE, and we want you there. Not kidding.)

That's it for now, thanks for stopping by!!

Movie Night and Bible Study Info!

I have two new pieces of news for you!

1) This Thursday we're getting together for a Movie Night!! We'll be watching "The Tale of Despereaux" as a precursor to the bible study that we will be starting on Sundays, and likely Pocahontas, or another animated adventure.

Meet at my (Alicia's) place, this Thursday the 29th at 7:30pm. Email me for more info if you need it. I'm excited!

2) This Sunday, October the 2nd, the church is starting a Bible Study, lead by Larry and Carolyn Kwiatkowski. I am super duper excited for this. We're going to be making and providing lunch for everyone, and asking that everyone gives five to ten bucks, to cover the cost of food, and any remaining money will be put towards helping Langley families with financial need with their Christmas shopping.

Remember, this is a Church wide bible study, for YOU! So I hope to see you there!!

Re-Kindling Our Fire...

This week on Thursday we're getting together to chat about this fall, and what that means for our group as far as bible study, fellowship, etc.
I'm excited, as we haven't really been communicating all summer about any 'Young Adults Group' specific happenings...so stay tuned to find out what we conclude and speak about!

What's in Store this Fall?

Hey! Thanks for checking in...just FYI we haven't got a kick off event planned this year, but are planning on beginning a bible study sometime in the fall, hopefully October sometime. It will likely be on Sundays after church, and will include lunch together. I'm excited for this, and will continue to keep you posted!

Camping

So last weekend a group of us young ones from the church went camping for the weekend at Hicks Lake (near Harrison). I had a really really great time, and laughed a lot more than I ever thought I would.
I feel really lucky to be part of this group of young people in the church. We all get along so well, and many of us have known each other for a very long time, but are still able to receive and welcome new faces (which for us, like any tight group of people, still takes conscious efforts). This weekend I felt like the group of people that camped together functioned much like a fun, healthy family...a family within the larger church family. I am excited to spend many more days with this smaller family in the future, and even more excited to see how we can be challenged to open ourselves up even more to the larger church family, and allow ourselves to be known and loved by the larger body.

Welcome Here!

Welcome here! A few years ago we had a website dedicated to our young adults group that I maintained, but after collecting some dust, so to speak, the website was deleted, and there really hasn't been a technological way for people to have a peek into what sort of fellowship, community building, and faith building we've been able to do with our young adults group.

I went back and forth trying to decide whether this would be a good idea to make this blog happen or not, and decided that it's worth a shot.
I guess the big questions to ask are: Will investing time into this bring the kingdom closer, or push us further away? Will this ultimately grow us closer to other people surrounding us, or make it easier for people at South Langley Church to just read about what's been going down and feel "connected" to the young adults because they've read about it online? Or could this end up being a way that the young adults can be heard more and result in better, authentic, real life connection with the rest of the church, and with those who stumble upon the church website, and ultimately this website?

So this blog will be an experiment, to start. That being said, I'll let you know where my mind is at with our group of young people. I am really excited that I can call all these wonderful people my friends, and am praying for this period of rest that we're in right now, just trying to feel out how to really connect with the whole church to be a fruit-bearing branch, rather than a dead and broken one. I know it is going to take patience to see what God's plan is for us as a group of people (if there is a plan for us collectively, that is), and am spending lots of time praying for all the individuals in this group. Will you join me?
