Hemlock is Coming!

Well, time has done it's thing and passed us with seemingly greater and greater speed. And here we are, in the season of winter already!

Which brings me to a few updates! Firstly, our Fall semester of Bible studies is coming to a close and will be finishing off with a gathering with much fun, laughter, and dessert. Date is to be determined. Check out our facebook group for that information, just send a request to join and see all the info about what's happening.
And we're kicking off the new year with our annual winter retreat to Hemlock!

Here's all the Hemlock info you need for now:

Dates
The dates are January 4th-6th.

Costs
I need your deposits ASAP. $25 will secure your spot. I am not totally sure on the cost quite yet, but I'm anticipating $110 for the entire weekend, which includes food and accommodation. If that changes I'll let you know. Hopefully if any change it will be cheaper! The more of us that can come the cheaper it makes it, so please encourage others to come and invite anyone who you think would enjoy the weekend.

The Low Down
You can expect a weekend of snow, fellowship, learning about the Bible and God, and skiing/ boarding. If you don't ski or board, you can rest assured that there will be others like you, so don't let that deter you.

Extras
I'll help coordinate rides to make sure that everyone is taken care of (which only ever works with your open communication, so please and thank you in advance for this.) Gas will be up to you to pay your driver for.
Lift tickets are your own responsibility.

We'll have the same chalets as last year, which are only a ten minute walk from the ski hill. Wahoo!

Please don't hesitate to contact me with any questions!!

Continuing Bible Study and Lunches this Fall

We're off to a great start this Fall. We had our third lunch together this week, and will continue to meet after church in people's homes for good food and fellowship. Email me for details, or ask to join our facebook group.

We are also continuing to meet on Tuesday evenings, every second week at 7:30 at Peter and Annette's. I will soon post which dates we're meeting, as the next few are not quite nailed down yet. Stay tuned, or again, email me!

Lunch and Bible Study Start Dates

So here goes, our fall is beginning!

We have our first lunch together this Sunday (the 23rd) at Rachel W's place!!! Wooo! We'll go straight from church to enjoy lunch.
Check out the previous post for details of what this Sunday lunch thing entails.

And we're going to be doing bible study every second Tuesday this semester. Starting October the 9th, then we'll meet the week directly after on the 16th (just this one time) and then it'll be every second week from the 16th.

We're going to be discussing the topics that are preached on in church, which is the 'hard questions' series. It should be pretty interesting, don't miss it.

We'll meet at 7:30 as usual. Email me for any questions or for the address of where we're going to be doing Tuesday bible study.

Bring on the Fall Schedule!

While the young adults were able to connect over the summer and have some great fun together, we're excited for a more regular fall schedule to begin. For us, this will mean two things:

1) Everyone's favourite....Sunday Lunches!!!

We're doing it again! In the past we've met for lunch at someone's house, where we eat together and have a wonderful time together. And yes, we always look as good as those super fun people in the photo.
Here's how it works:

  • Someone hosts
  • They provide food (we're very, very, easy to please)
  • We all pay cash as if we're at a restaurant ($5-10)
  • We fully reimburse for grocery costs
  • Any leftover cash goes towards persons/organizations that we are then able to bless
So, if you're from South Langley Church and are interested in getting to know the young adults better, we would love to visit you and let you make us food! (Sounds like a sweet deal, eh?) If the food part, or the number of us, or whatever, overwhelms you but you are interested, please please please have an honest conversation with me and I'd love to calm your fears and make something work.

Natalie D will be in charge of fall hosting sign up, so please email me so that I can connect you to her.

Our first lunch will be on September 23rd at Rachel W's house right after church. Email me for her address.

2) Bible Study at Peter and Annette's!

I'm so excited for this. Either Tuesday or Thursdays, we're not sure yet, but we'll meet every second week for meaningful conversation that follows the Fall sermon series "Tough Questions"
More details when we have a kickoff date.

Change of Plans!

The original plan was to continue regular meetings until the end of June, but due to...well a few things, we're going to assume 'Summer Fun-tivities' mode beginning NOW. Which means that we will not be meeting this week or next on Thursday, but events will only happen based on YOUR suggestions and initiative.

Please message me if you have any ideas....I am more than happy to send out information to make events happen, I just won't be able to plan all the events. And of course, I'll be updating this site to let everyone know what's happening. So check frequently, or let me know your email address to add to our mailout list so that you'll be updated right away.

June Happenings

So after a brief pause for a fundraiser last Thursday, we're back in bible study swing, continuing to learn about world religions together for the next few Thursdays at the church. Be there at 7:30 to join us in learning and conversation. I hope to see you there!!

Hinduism, Ride for Doug, and Pub Night

This week we're meeting at the church at 7:30, as per usual, talking and learning about Hinduism. Should be very interesting, so I hope you can make it.

The Ride for Doug is on Sunday, and we're on traffic directing patrol! I hope you can help, all you have to do is show up on Sunday to the church at 12:30. The ride goes until 5:30. We need you and your wonderful face, and you should bring your friends too! Barbeque supper afterwards if you can stay!!

And Lastly, next Thursday we're not meeting at the church because there is a Pub Night event that is happening to raise money for the 24 hour Easter Seals Relay. Bring fifteen bucks this week to buy your tickets...it buys you a burger, fries, and a drink...an awesome deal! It will be at Jimmy Mac's in Walnut Grove.
The relay itself is on June 16-17th, and I hope you're able to make it out to the relay!
Here is a link with information about what will be happening at the relay- it looks like a seriously fun time.

Feel free to email me with any questions!!

What We're Up To...

For the past two weeks we've met at the church and began a bible study featuring a video series about various religions and world views. The information has been interesting, and the conversation good and insightful, and as always the company is tons of fun.

We're meeting at the church at 7:30 next Thursday to continue the conversation, so I hope you're able to make it out.

In other news, camping is booked for August 17th-19th at Deer Lake (near Harrison), so if you're a "Young Adult" and are interested, please mark the date down, or pass along the information to someone who might be interested in joining us.

Hello!

I'm here to bring you some updated information about what's happening in the next little while:

Sunday lunch in April:
Get ready for some awesome. We're having a big lunch together very soon, likely even this coming weekend. Probably a pot luck, so stay tuned for info in regards to bringing things!

Church Work Day:
Saturday April 21st. Come out to the church, beginning at 8am. We'll be fed a coffee break and lunch, and the day typically ends at about 2 or 3pm. Come for any or all parts of this day. Older people think young people rock, so be there.

Meeting on Thursdays again!:
Also, starting in May, we'll be meeting on Thursdays again!!! Like for real! Every week!
Starting with an awesome dinner at the Gammie household (you know, Cindy, our Sunday school coordinator…and her hubby Rich) on Thursday May 3rd.
After that Thursday we'll be meeting (likely) in the young adults room each week to learn together once again. Ahhh!!! I'm terribly excited.

Couple More Dates for you:

Ladies, there's a women's event on Monday April 30th. Mandatory attendance. Just kidding, but seriously it's going to be worth coming. Hanging out with ladies rocks. Sign up at the info desk.

Ride for Doug is Sunday June 3rd this year. Please free up that afternoon now, as we need all the help we can get to be part of the amazing and talented traffic control team.

Check out the Facebook Young Adults Page for proposed camping dates. Please let me know if you're not part of the group and I'll make sure you're in so you can vote.

That's all for now!

Coming Happenings!

So Gabby's play was fantastic, and if you didn't make it out, you sure missed out!

We aren't meeting this week, but there are a few dates and things on the Horizon to think about before we meet again:

  • Thursday May 3rd we're going to Cindy and Rich's place for supper- you don't want to miss this!
  • Friday May 25th to Saturday May 26th- Relay for Life. Join SLC's team for a super fun night. I'll be there this year, and am super excited!
  • We will likely meet on Thursdays consistently starting in May, so get ready for that! Much awesomeness will ensue.

Play- Moved to Next Week!

Hey!
So I spoke with Gabby, one of our very own young adults, and actor in the wonderful play we are going to see, and she informed me that tomorrow night's show is a special showing, and all the seats are full! Ah!

So NEXT THURSDAY the 22nd we are going together to see the play! Which gives you more time to let me know if you want to come. Give me an email, and look to the post below for more details.

Thursday- to the Theatre!!

Hello Everyone,
After a tremendously successful time last week putting our room back together, we're going to have some fun this week while we go to support Gabby by watching the play she's in. The show is Shakespeare's "As You Like It", and it's at the Chilliwack campus of UFV.
We are going on Thursday (the 15th). It begins at 7:30, but we'll be leaving from Langley much before that...

If you want to join us, please email me at aliciakear@gmail.com so that I can get you a ticket ($18 for adults, $15 for students) and tell you where we're meeting to carpool.

Hope to hear from you!

More Help Please--The End is Near!!

Next Thursday, March 8th, we're getting together at the church to continue working on our room. I am so excited that all the paint is on the walls, and things are coming together. We'll be cleaning lots of the stuff that has been collecting dirt and dust, and probably will be spray painting some stuff too. So come dressed with that in mind.
I understand that this isn't the most compelling sort of thing to participate in, but I hope you can see the value of the work that goes in right now, and are able to spare an hour or two out of your week to make this happen.

The quicker this room is finished, the quicker we can start meeting regularly again!
Come at 7:30 peeps!
Thanks everyone!

Tuesday, February 21, 2012

This Thursday we're meeting at the church at 7pm again with our painting garb, ready to tackle the walls of our young adults room once again. There will be tons of jobs to do, so come ready to help out! Everyone is welcome...we love free labour!! And the people doing the labour, of course. :)

Re-Claiming our Room!

We are so incredibly blessed to have a space of our own in the church. A room that we can utilize to share time together in praise, prayer, learning, and sharing, worshipping the God who we love.

I am excited to say that we're painting the room on Thursday, and hopefully in only a few short weeks from now will be in our room, using it together.

So young adults, come this week to the church at 7pm with your painting garb on! See you there!

How to be awesome, and get dessert too!

So I know I said we were going to start this week with carpet, etc., but for a number of reasons we are going to hold up, then next week it will be ALLLL hands on deck!!! And we'll go nuts laying carpet and painting our room!

So we are not meeting at the church next week, but definitely are next week!

Lastly….we have a chance to get some free dessert!! What could be better? Not much. As you may be aware, the church is having a "Guess who's coming for dessert?" night. Basically everyone in the church signs up for this thing and everyone is assigned an address to go to or amount of guests they'll be serving, and no one knows who they'll be having dessert with until they show up! Like I said on Sunday, it has potential to be uncomfortable, yes, but also to be totally awesome. So embrace the awkward.

All you have to do is sign up this Sunday at the info desk. You can sign up alongside a friend/significant other so you know you won't be going totally alone. I also talked to the person who is going to be arranging who goes to whose homes, and she asked if it was a good idea to pair up any young adults who sign up on their own with someone else in young adults- I said yes. So you can rest assured that there will be at least one familiar face!

I think that's everything for now.

Later!

Wednesday, February 1, 2012

Alright, so the word is in:
We will NOT be meeting tomorrow night, but will be meeting the following week on Thursday evening for SURE! Carpet laying and possibly painting will commence!

Monday, January 30, 2012

We're crossing our fingers that carpet is delivered to the church this week so that we can start laying it on Thursday. So stay tuned for an update and an email about meeting this week.
I am also excited to say that we're going to begin painting the Young Adults room very very soon...so stay tuned for that info also!

Currently, we are looking for a coat rack to go in the young adults room. Any coat rack will do. If you know where we can find one, or have one you'd like to give to us, please shoot me an email. Thanks!

That's all for now!

Finally an update!!
We just had our Hemlock trip last weekend, which was really awesome. Please ask us about it, as I don't have a lot of time to type details now. Let me give you a few words that would sum up the weekend.
Learning, Improvising, Collaborating, Celebrating, Enjoying, and...POWDER!!

I can honestly say that it was my favourite young adults event that I've planned to date. And I've planned a few :)

From this point on, I believe we're going to be meeting to do some work on the church building, and in a while will be meeting to do a regular bible study together. So stay tuned, or email me if you have questions!
